November Reflection and Into December

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I found November to be chaotic, to say the least. I had so many school deadlines that I posted a November Catch-Up instead of individual Weekly Wraps.

November as a reading month was quite weird. All three 5-star reads were re-reads, and my rule for favourite book of the month is that it can’t be a re-read. Therefore, despite Famine by Laura Thalassa being a 4.25-star read, it’s my favourite read of November. Compared to my other 4-star reads, I thought the plot and character development of Famine were strong. While the brutality of this series can be striking, I like the moral commentary and debate between the Heroine and Hero given the apocalyptic setting.

I thought it was funny that most of my reads โ€“ like October โ€“ were steamy romances, so my November Wrap is called “35 Steamier Reads.” With the stress of the end of the school semester, I gravitated towards books that were pure escapism.

November Book Reviews

Fervent Yet Vexing

The Boss by Melanie Moreland

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Quick Take: THE BOSS by Melanie Moreland is a dark romantic suspense novel that boasts a sweet romance yet proves vexing with its double standards.

My December Hopefuls

I was going to draw some prompts from my TBR jar to make my December minimum TBR list more fun. But, with how busy December has been, I decided to make my December’s Hopefuls list the same as the “Three books I want to read by the end of the year” in my End of Year Book Tag post.

When the Stars Go Dark by Paula McLain is a mystery/thriller set in California in 1991. It sparked my interest in the mystery genre which isn’t one I typically read. I’m particularly looking forward to the character development and introspection.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller is a retelling of Homer’s The Illiad told from the perspective of Patroclus which spotlights the romantic relationship between him and Achilles. I’m a sucker for all retellings and intrigued by how my understanding of the epic will shift with Patroclus’s POV.

The Space Between Worlds is a sci-fi with a sapphic romance that explores the repercussions of a multi-verse and colonization. I’ve been on a bit of a sci-fi kick in December, so I’m hoping this book will assuage my need for a kick-ass main character and complex world-building.
