My Reading Progress

While I didn’t read many books – by my standards – last week, the books I did read were great. In fact, I read one of my new favourite romances: The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood. It’s the most perfect grumpy-sunshine and fake dating romance, which is a feat considering it’s told strictly from the heroine’s POV. I also loved all the commentary on working in academia.

Of course, once I made a plan to post my August Wrap, I got swamped with school πŸ˜…. I am committed to catching up on my Monthly Wraps before mid-October. So, hopefully, the general deadline doesn’t jinx me.

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

None last week, which is unfortunate considering I’m itching to do another book haul πŸ™ˆ.

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

Long Bright River by Liz Moore has been at the back of my mind for the past few weeks and I decided it’s time I actually read it! I love character-driven plots so I’m excited the book focuses on the main character’s relationship with her sister.

It’s been quite a while since I read a book that’s first a mystery/thriller. However, I think the introspective look at their relationship will ground the mystery and larger narrative on the opioid crisis.

To Look Forward To This Week

Releasing on Thursday (September 23rd) is Melanie Moreland’s Harvest of Love. The book is a continuation of her Insta-Spark series. And, since the romance borders on insta-love (hence the name of the series), it’s been rebranded with the pseudonym: M. Moreland. This creates a clear differentiation between her romance novels, allowing readers to set their expectations accordingly.

My review of Harvest of Love will be posted on Thursday as well. I love how Moreland was able to blend the instant connection and sweet romance with a more serious – and relevant in COVID – topic: burnout.
