I mentioned Me and White Supremacy in my early August weekly wrap. You can see the details here. Honestly, part of confronting my white fragility (and, therefore, how I contribute to white supremacy) is getting in the rhythm of committing to doing a topic each day.

I want to reiterate from my last post on Me and White Supremacy that if you are open and committed to working on practicing antiracism I strongly suggest doing the workbook.

On the topic of my Up Next shelf, I’m slowly working through it. I’m currently reading four books (including Me and White Supremacy) that are on my Up Next list. So, hopefully, next week I can up my ‘progress’ to 30.

So, if you’ve been reading my updates these past few weeks you know I’ve fallen way behind on my reading list. It’s a mixture of too many good books to choose from and just not being in the mood to read, no matter how good the books are. What’s resulted is me flipping between quite a number of books.

I never used to be the kind of reader who read multiple books at once but quarantine and COVID-19 have severely influenced my reading habits I think. The following is a list of the books that I’m currently reading and need to finish.

• How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
• 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act by Bob Joseph
• Searching for Sylvie Lee by Jean Kwok
• Finding Hope by C.C. Masters

I don’t think I’ve ever taken as long to read a book as I’m taking with How to Be an Antiracist (you have to go back to my July weekly wrap to see the details) but I want to make sure that I don’t skim. I want to retain and understand every single chapter.

I’m also working on stopping myself from defending my new reading pace–it’s not like I have to speed-read every single book. Something I have to keep telling myself.

I published a brief overview of my Family in Six Tones review on Goodreads on Sunday–you can access it here. However, my full review of the memoir will be posted tomorrow to celebrate its release date, September 15th.
