My Reading Progress

Get the Book: 🇨🇦

I read a lot of quick, sweet and steamy romances this week. As I’m settling into my spring (summer?) semester – figuring out my upcoming assignments, exams and readings – it helps to be reading books that are light and fluffy – pure escapism. Using books as a coping mechanism for stress is also why I re-read two of my favourite books from March and April: The Sweetest Fix by Tessa Bailey and All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata.

Last week Room For Three by Ivy Fox was released! I was terribly excited to get back into her Bad Influence series; I read Archangels MC and loved it. It’s really amazing how authors can create such compelling reverse harem romances that are standalone! Room For Three is about Spencer, who was accepted to USC on a full ride for a woman’s basketball scholarship. But, just her luck, the university messed up her accommodation, and she’s stuck rooming with three of the best basketball players from the men’s team. What results is a lot of feelings, drama, a lot of pushing away, and Spencer trying to balance staying on the team, being a team player, achieving her dreams with her developing romantic feelings for her roommates!

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

No books were read from my Up Next Shelf last week!

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

I’m diligently chipping away at all the books towering on my nightstand! Prominently featured are: The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi and Memory Serves by Lee Maracle.

I’ve also been sorting out my Reading Challenges (see them here), specifically which of the books from my Up Next Shelf can fulfil elements of the challenges, and I’ve discovered quite a few! For example, once I read The Henna Artist, I’ll get to check off “Asia – South” from my Read Around the World challenge.

Finally, I’m still reading Bad Feminist – this week, it will officially (i.e. once I post my April Wrap) be on my minimum to-be-read for May! I also love how I’m getting Gay’s random pop culture references despite me being Gen Z. Gay’s mention of Vanessa Williams – the first Black woman to win Miss America – was timely since I read a whole book on the Miss America pageant this year (see Here She Is by Hilary Levey Friedman). Also, her references to the Sweet Valley series she read in grade school? I read those at summer camp in middle school!

Overall, I love how I’ve decided to savour my current reads. But, I think I’ve also finally reached the point where I want new books sitting on my bedside table. Therefore, I’m hoping this month I’ll have finished all these books.

To Look Forward To This Week

I’m posting my April Wrap this week! I’m so happy that the number of books I’m reading continues to increase every month. I feel like I’m finally getting back into my pre-COVID-19 reading rhythm.

There are so many amazing books releasing this week!

Coming out tomorrow (May 18) are:

  • Off the Record by Camryn Garrett,
  • Last Chance Books by Kelsey Rodkey and
  • Fake by Kylie Scott!

Later this week, on May 20th (Thursday), Forbidden by Karla Sorensen releases! It’s a forbidden contemporary romance featuring a Hero who is a single parent and widow. It’s the fourth book in the Ward Sisters series and I’m so excited to read Isabel’s book!
