My Reading Progress
I finally posted my January Wrap earlier this week. I loved having my reading journal to draw from. I’m also starting to include reviews of my most and least favourite reads of each month to explain my reasoning.
I fell down a Lisa Kleypas tunnel last week; I re-read six of her books! If you’re ever in the mood for historical romances with sweet romances, look no further than Kleypas’s backlist! Each of the books features an opposites-attract couple that compliments each other so well.
I also started re-reading The Hunger Games series last week. The last time I read these books was 10 years ago 😅. I’m happy to report that they hold up to my nostalgic memories. I’ve also been watching the movie after each book, so I’m just marinating in all my Hunger Games fandom feelings 😂.
I finally picked up and read My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite last week! It’s a fast-paced thriller where the main character is a nurse in Nigeria who has somehow gotten stuck cleaning up after her sister’s murders. The book felt very on theme with that TikTok circulating right now: “I support women’s rights, but more importantly, I support women’s wrongs.”
Reading Challenges Progress
I’m so behind on my March Hopefuls list. We’re halfway through the month and I’ve only read one book. I’m a mood reader and I haven’t been in the mood for fantasy, literary fiction or nonfiction this month, yet these are the genres on my March tbr. I’m considering rethinking my approach for my April tbr because I don’t want the negative energy of consistently failing to meet my reading goals.
I have made progress on my BCB Spring Reading BINGO and Diversify Yo’ Bookshelf BINGO reading challengers!
I am so pleased that I’m on top of my Goodreads Reading Challenge. I was low-key worried that my ambitious goal of 400 books would be too stressful but it’s just the push I need (I was only 13 books short of reading 400 books in 2021).

To Be Read
Since I’ve been reading dystopian books recently, I’ve decided to tackle Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler. I love reading books written in the 80s/90s set in the future because I’m currently living the future they’re were writing about (very meta).
Parable of the Sower is my choice for my Tackle my Up Next Shelf prompt: Afro-futurism. I’m also excited that the book has some strong feminism themes. Also, it’s about time I read a book by Butler.
Overall, super excited to start reading this book!
To Look Forward To This Week
The cover of Peach Blossom Spring by Melissa Fu is gorgeous which was one of the main reasons I added it to my Upcoming Releases list. But it’s plot which explores the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945), immigration to the US, family relationships and modern Chinese history.
I love historical fiction, especially when they explore family dynamics and legacies.
