My Reading Progress
I’m so proud that my high fantasy reading binge continued into last week! It resulted in another book being knocked from my Up Next Shelf; I’ve finally updated my Up Next Shelf page, so you can check out the (small) dent I’ve made in my backlog of books waiting to be read.
Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao has been on my Up Next Shelf since September 2020 (check out the book haul)! The world-building was awesome and I loved how it was loosly based on Russian Imperalism and Anastasia. However, I think Blood Heir was a bit of a let down because it’s heroine, Ana, was yet another incredibly powerful woman who’s terrified of her magic (looking at you A River of Royal Blood). I’m planning on continuing with the series, though, since I want to see what Ana, the daughter of the Emperor, thinks about the uprising demand for a democacy. It would be so unique to have a high fantasy novel that doesn’t glorify imperialism/monarchies.
Up Next Shelf Progress
A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.
Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao is officially knocked off my Up Next Shelf!

The Upcoming Week
To Be Read
My to-be-read goal from my last Weekly Wrap (July 12th to July 18th) is unchanged, considering I’m not halfway through the first book in the Sands of Arawiya duology. I’m hoping to complete the duology by finishing We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal this week! The world-building is just as beautiful as I remember. And, apparently, the series has been optioned for a TV series!!! I’m SO excited and really hope it gets picked up!
I’ve recently made a list of how many current reads I’m juggling (5!) and how many books I said I was planning on reading next (7 🙈). So, I’m hoping to reorient my TBR list in general and, more specifically, this section. If I’m still working my way through a book, I will use this section to discuss my current thoughts 😊.
To Look Forward To This Week
Get the Book: 🇨🇦
Releasing this week on Thursday, July 29th is the third book in Melanie Moreland’s ABC Corp series: Loved by Liam! I was lucky enough to be given an eARC of the book in exchange for an honest review. I’m going to be posting my review either tomorrow or Wednesday (right before the release date!).
If you love sweet-AF romances with single-parents and found family themes, Loved by Liam should be your next romance read!
