My Reading Progress

Book cover of "My Saving Grace" by Melanie Moreland

Pre-Order the Book: 🇨🇦

Last week I reviewed My Saving Grace by Melanie Moreland! It was my first featured blog review of 2021; I forgot how much I enjoy taking the time to discuss the nuances of the books I read. And, while My Saving Grace had a few pitfalls with the execution of its central conflict, I loved the Heroine, Grace. She’s so freaking awesome; she’s not afraid to be vulnerable or to stand up for herself. I can’t wait for the next books in the ABC Corp series; I wonder who’s next to get their HEA?

I completely forgot yesterday was Valentine’s Day until halfway through the 14th. Realizing the significance of the day made me wonder if my sudden uptick in re-reading HEA erotica romance subconsciously correlates to Valentine’s? I finally got around to reading Alexa Riley’s latest release: The Loyal Groom. It’s a childhood sweetheart romance that spans grade 10ish to the main character’s mid-twenties, as they navigate their Romeo and Juliette romance. It was a sweet read that set me off on a re-reading binge; I read Ringing in the New Year and Keeping Her Warm pretty soon afterward.

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

The total number of books on my Up Next Shelf has increased from 92 to 98 books and my books read increased to 8 books.

Net Progress = Books Added – Books Read

My Net Progress increased to 6 books which means I added more books than I read last week. I’m planning on posting a February Book Haul soon!

See the Details: How do the graphs of Net Progress, Total Books and Books Read influence my Up Next Shelf progress?
Overall is the net value between the books I read and the books I added to my Up Next shelf. (If total increases and read also increases (see week Nov 9-15, the net progress is 0.)

Total Books is the total number of books still waiting to be read on my Up Next Shelf. It’s important to recognize that when I finish a book, that book is immediately deducted from the total, meaning the total value decreases. It’s important because while the weeks of Nov 2-8 and Nov 9-15 look like my total books value hasn’t changed, it actually shows that I added a new book to my Up Next Shelf during the Week of Nov 9-15.

Books Read is the number of books I’ve read from my Up Next Shelf in that week. The values are negative because finishing a book from the Shelf decreases the total value. Therefore, when looking at the Overall graph (the yellow line), you can see when the line is 0, the books I read and added cancel each other out. This week (Nov 16-22), the Overall value is below the 0-line, demonstrating that I didn’t add any new books to my Up Next Shelf, but I did finish a book from the Shelf.

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

Book cover of "Men Explain Things to Me" by Rebecca Solnit

Get the Book: 🇨🇦 ~ 🇬🇧 ~ 🇺🇸

Of course, I’m still reading quite a few books right now. I never used to read more than one book at a time, but here I am, reading four books at once!

I’m really excited to get into Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit. This book is what inspired the term mansplaining. It’s a compact compilation of essays on the dynamics between genders resulting in women’s silencing, demonstrating why we need feminism.

I’m also slowly working my way through:

 • Until We Are Free Edited by Rodney Diverlus, Sandy Hudson and Syrus Marcus Ware
 • Memory Serves by Lee Maracle
 • Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
 • The Body Is Not An Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love by Sonya Renee Taylor

To Look Forward To This Week

Book cover of "A Court of Silver Flames" by Sarah J. Maas

Pre-Order the Book: 🇨🇦 ~ 🇬🇧 ~ 🇺🇸

I’m ECSTATIC that the release date of A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas is finally here; it’s releasing tomorrow! I’m planning another buddy read to get through this hefty novel (it’s 757 pages!). I definitely appreciate Nesta, and I 100% believe that if a male character acted the way she did, the whole Maas fandom would be swooning. The only thing that will drag down this book is if it’s a love triangle – we all know who are the endgame, so any introduction of an OW to create jealousy will be a plot device, which is lazy writing.
