Outline

August Reflection and Into September

All the books I read in August, including the one 2-star read, were diverting books. Either they were entertaining/amusing or drew my attention… complete escapism. Pretty much all these books were fast reads where I was completely immersed in the series, an alternate world or the tribulations of the characters. Compared to the number of books read in preceding months, August was a bit slower โ€“ having only read 28 to July’s 40 โ€“ but I read quite a few great books that I’m already considering re-reading.

I also posted three reviews: one eARC and one series review of the Ice Planet Barbarians which has so many books I had to split it into two posts. August was a great month for my want-to-read list. So many of the books added are on the top of my to-be-read and to-buy lists!

August Book Reviews

Moving and Intimate

Age of Ava by Melanie Moreland

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Quick Take: A moving and intimate opposites-attract romance with a perfectly grumpy Hero and badass Heroine that explores family and the rewards of vulnerability.

Ice Planet Barbarians

Ice Planet Barbarians #1-10, A Series by Ruby Dixon

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Quick Take: Part 1 of my review of the Ice Planet Barbarians series encompasses books 1-10 and details my favourite books in the series as well as my favourite couples.

Ice Planet Barbarians #11-20, A Series by Ruby Dixon

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Quick Take: Part 2 of my review of the Ice Planet Barbarians series (books 11-20), includes my favourite book and a few characters that surprised me (in a good way).

My September Hopefuls

I had an eclectic genre of books listed as my September Hopefuls. You’re the Only One I’ve Told: the Stories Behind Abortion by Dr. Meera Shah is a nonfiction book that brings the politics of abortion to a personal level. Dune by Frank Herbert is a cornerstone in the sci-fi fantasy genre. I’m also trying to read it before the movie comes out in late October. Finally, The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon is a flirty, contemporary romance that plays on the fake-dating trope and has conversations about how women are continually overlooked for promotion, despite their work experience.
