My Reading Progress

My sci-fi romance streak continues! I discovered a fantastic sci-fi romance series, the Veredian Chronicles, last week. The first book, Escaping Fate, follows Amalia, one of the remaining survivors of the Veredian race, as she escapes and continues to elude her enslavers. It’s an MFM romance and such a fun read. The book – and series – balances romance, character development and action. And while each book in the series follows a different couple, there’s an overarching plot, so it’s best to read the books in order.

One of my most anticipated releases for August was The Sinner by Emma Scott. I know I’m going to get a pretty angsty and emotional read with Emma Scott’s books, but she’s never made me regret trusting her. However, I admit I was a bit let down by The Sinner. I’m not really a fan of second-chance romances, and that’s what the book turns out to be. The synopsis was quite mysterious, and I understand why it couldn’t reveal why it’s a second-chance romance, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I could’ve put myself into that mindset.

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

Last week, I finished two books from my Up Next Shelf: Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo and We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal.

Both books have been on my Up Next Shelf for so long – and I think Crooked Kingdom was even on my minimum-TBR for January 2021 🙈.

Interestingly, both Crooked Kingdom and We Free the Stars were the last books in a duology, and I loved them both more than the first books in their series.

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

I’m continuing my sci-fi streak by putting Dune by Frank Herbert at the top of my TBR list! Not only is Dune a staple in the sci-fi community, but the remake of the film is set to release soon; therefore, in preparation for the movie, I’m reading the book before I start school 😊.

I love how sci-fi can explore relevant political topics yet adds mysticism and complex world-building to enrich the experience. I have high hopes that Dune will be a new favourite.

Age of Ava is releasing this week – Thursday, August 26th, to be precise! I’m so excited for the book community to get their hands on this book; it’s the perfect mix of grumpy-sunshine banter, character development and emotional subplots.

I’m planning on posting my review the day before Age of Ava‘s release date 😊.
