My Reading Progress

I finished a book I’ve been wanting to read for a long time: 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act by Bob Joseph. I’m going to do an in-depth Goodreads review later this week, but I did want to mention how important it is that all Canadians read it. I think many non-Indigenous people in Canada are unaware of the repercussions of the Indian Act as well as the historical and present discrimination that has originated from the systemic racism put into place by colonialism.

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

I’m still reading If I Had Your Face by Frances Cha and I’m really enjoying it so far. You will like If I had Your Face if you appreciate:
🏷 Feminism
🏷 Stories of different women
🏷 Challenging the worth of women being synonymous with how pretty (or rich) they are.

Next from my Up Next list is Thin Girls by Diana Clarke, a protégé of Roxane Gay. Not only does Thin Girls explore the bond between twin sisters, but it’s a much-needed exploration of the toxicity of diet culture, exploring body issues, eating disorders and queerness. The exploration of childhood, mental illnesses and the fraught relationship many women have with food suggest a gripping read.

To Look Forward To This Week

I’m posting my review of Heart Strings tomorrow! As you can see from the many books I’ve read by Melanie Moreland (on this blog and on Goodreads), I love the sweet romances Melanie writes.

Also, my September Wrap will be posted this week on October 1st. It feels like the months pass by so quickly now that I’m measuring them by book reviews posted.

There are also two books on my Upcoming Release list coming out this week: The Glass Queen by Gena Showalter and The Nations by K.A. Knight.
