My Reading Progress

Last week was a slower reading week. I read most of the books towards the end since the past weekend was a long weekend in Canada. It was nice to rest but this coming week is so busy. Knowing me, that won’t stop me from reading.

I read two 5-star rated books last week, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed them. One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston was the first sapphic romance I’ve ever read. It was so good and lots of fun with the time travel element added to it. I loved August’s sleuth personality and her chemistry with love-interest Jane was fire.

I was most surprised by how much I enjoyed Find Me by Ashley N. Rostek. I read many reviews that didn’t enjoy the plot, but I found it entertaining, captivating and the book was incredibly well written. It’s a romantic-suspense, reverse harem romance novel. And, while the Heroine and two of her love interests are in high school, it’s very much a “new adult” book. The Heroine is dealing with the traumatic murder of her family by the man stalking her and is currently in WITSEC as her uncle hunts for the perpetrator. Of course, there’s a family of boys (ahem, men) next door who take Shiloh under their wing. The book does require you to suspend your disbelief but once you do, it’s such a fun – and surprisingly heartwarming – read!

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

Three of the books I read last week were from my Up Next Shelf. I’m finally prioritizing the books on that list, in part because I love checking books off it and because the countdown to 2022 is on. Yes, I went there.

Off my Up Next Shelf are:

  • One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
  • Merciless by Crystal Ash
  • Find Me by Ashley N. Rostek

I’m so excited yet cannot believe Defending Nightmares by M. Sinclair is already out! It was months ago when I read the first book in the I.S.S. series and consumed it within one sitting. I was so bummed the sequel wasn’t going to release until October – yet, here we are! (I guess that’s my long way of saying, I can’t believe it’s October.)

Defending Nightmares is a post-apocalyptic reverse harem romance where the monsters that go bump in the night are real and feed off the fear of humans to survive. Plot twist, those same nightmares are the “good” guys in this series. The psychotic love interests in fantasy RH books are always so funny πŸ˜‚.

The Boss by Melanie Moreland is releasing on Thursday, October 14th! I love it when authors branch out of their normal romance genres; it’s a creative way of shaking up their approach to romance writing. While I liked the marriage of convenience set-up and the darker tones of The Boss, there were specific aspects of the book that weren’t for me. I’ll get into the particulars in my review which I’ll post later this week!
