My Reading Progress

Get the book: 🇨🇦

I crossed two books off my Up Next shelf this past week, one of which counts towards my #NonfictionNovember total! Both books, Dear Edward by Ana Napolitano and How to Get Over A Boy by Chidera Eggerue, have been waiting to be read for quite some time. So, I’m delighted that I’ve finished them and, more importantly, I really enjoyed them.

As you can see above, most of the books I read (besides the two from my Up Next shelf) were quick HEA Erotica novellas. They were light and fun; good palette cleansers for the more heavy and dense books I read last week.

I also severely slimmed down my Up Next shelf (from 116 books to 86 books), so the total goal number is smaller, and the percentage achieved is larger. I decided to be brutally honest with myself about the books I for sure wanted to read from my already-purchased pile.

Speaking of books read, last week, I posted my review of Miracle Creek by Angie Kim! (See my review here). The novel is a courtroom drama about a fire at a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy centre, which kills two people during a session–an autistic patient, a 9-year-old boy, Henry and a different young patient’s mother, Kitt. Henry’s own mother is on trial for their murder. Still, as the trial unfolds, it becomes evident that the victims and witnesses aren’t completely honest about the events leading up to the explosion, creating a whodunnit legal drama.

The theme of my reviews these past two weeks was Whodunnit Mysteries. Miracle Creek compliments Anxious People by Fredrik Backman (see my review here) because they both have character-driven plots and tackle difficult topics.

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

Get the book: 🇨🇦 ~ 🇬🇧 ~ 🇺🇸

Originally, I wasn’t going to introduce any new books in this week’s Weekly Wrap because my reading list for this upcoming week is to catch up on last week’s to-be-read list. However, I decided to include all the books I want to read, which means two books I haven’t really spoken about in-depth before. But, first up is a list of all the books I’m planning on reading this week that are rolling over from last week:

My new additions to my latest to-be-read list are Seven Ways to Kill a King by Melissa Wright and Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson.

Both are standalone YA fantasy; I find standalone fantasies to be so anomalous, so I’m really excited to be introduced to these new worlds without committing to a series. Both books also feature badass Heroines and developed magic rules! Also, Seven Ways to Kill a King has an assassin Heroine, which is one of my favourite fantasy tropes. Comparatively, Sorcery of Thorns has a magical library, which I think all bibliophiles can appreciate.

To Look Forward To This Week

Get the book: 🇨🇦 ~ 🇬🇧 ~ 🇺🇸

I, obviously, have quite a few books to look forward to this week! I’ve already started reading Untamed by Glennon Doyle, and I’m loving it! It’s my first book by Doyle, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. But, so far, so good.

This week I’m back to posting two book reviews, which I’m excited about. But, I’ve been doing some tweaking of my review Instagram posts. Instead of having the search bar with the book title, I’ll be featuring the book cover. And, to make my posts more cohesive, I’ll be posting a quote from my book review the day before the review goes live. Hopefully, this will generate more engagement.

Finally, I’m so relieved that the US has elected Biden and Harris. Biden’s election also makes history through the first-ever Black Indian Woman Vice President, Kamala Harris!

While I’m glad the US has finally booted Trump from the White House and has elected a leadership team that is prioritizing unity and democracy, Trump’s rise (and the 70+ million people who voted for him) demonstrates there is much to address and fix in the world. The work is just beginning.

With this weekly update, I’ve decided to include a section that fosters some discussion (and, maybe, best of all, book recommendations). So, for the future, I’ll be ending these updates with a question we can hopefully chat about in the comments below:

One of the popular book challenges on Instagram is #NonfictionNovember. Do you like nonfiction books, and, if you do, what nonfiction books will you be reading this month?
