My Reading Progress

October is almost over and I haven’t read many autumnal books… probably because the summer weather only just went away last week. Nothing is more autumnal than the cover of The Fall Bride by Alexa Riley; it’s such a beautiful cover. While I liked the story, I wasn’t wowed by it partly because I am not a huge fan of enemies-to-lovers romances nor antagonistic flirting. However, I am a huge fan of Alexa Riley; they’re an instant purchase for me.

The rest of the books I read last week were dark romances and taboo erotica 😂. Obviously, I was in a mood.

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

To Be Read

I’ve been feeling the need to read a thriller/mystery lately; it’s probably my way of contributing to the spooky season. The Five by Hallie Rubenhold is both a thriller and mystery; it’s a feminist nonfiction book that tells the stories of the women killed by Jack the Ripper.

The Five makes evident the extent to which these women were victims of patriarchy and misogyny. There have been so many books published questioning and investigating who Jack the Ripper was as if he was an anomaly.

At its very core, the story of Jack the Ripper is a narrative of a killers deep, abiding hatred of women. Our cultural obsession with the mythology surrounding Jack the Ripper only serves to normalise its particular brand of misogyny. We’ve grown so comfortable with these stories – the unfathomable male killer – that we’ve failed to recognise that he continues to walk among us.

To Look Forward To This Week

It has been six years since the last book was released in the Deep in Your Veins series and I’m so excited to delve back into the world of The Hollow.

Captivated by Suzanne Wright is an anthology that includes three novellas, telling the stories of supporting characters from the previous books in the series. I’m especially interested in Max’s novella, considering he was one corner of a love triangle in the original trilogy.

In the coming weeks, I’m planning on posting my review of The Boss by Melanie Moreland and my September Wrap and October Wrap.
