My Reading Progress

Get the Book: ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Forbidden was an excellent and nostalgic conclusion to the Ward Sisters series. I loved how the last book featured Molly’s wedding โ€“ it encapsulated how far each of the sisters has come since their introduction in Logan’s book (The Marriage Effect). While Isabel’s book came later than I wanted, it was well worth the wait. I didn’t expect Forbidden to be such an emotional romance. But the Hero’s backstory of figuring out how to live without his wife and reconciling his feelings for Isabel elevated the story. (Also, for those who like tropes, it’s a single widowed father romance!)

Also, because I love to re-read books, I read Scarlett XOXO by Autumn Reed last week! It was in my Top 5 books of my April Wrap, and I love it when re-reading books remind me of how much I loved it the first time around ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

Another week of no new book purchases! Unfortunately, I still haven’t made a dent in my Up Next Shelf either ๐Ÿ™ˆ.

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

The Lost Apothecary was part of my Maytime Book Haul! I’m finally wrapping up Memory Serves so The Lost Apothecary is taking its place on my bedside table.

The Lost Apothecary tells the story of modern-day Caroline as she discovers clues to London’s “apothecary murders” that happened two centuries ago while grappling with the recent discovery of her husband’s infidelity. The book also follows the lives of Nella and 12-year-old Eliza in 1791 London. Nella uses her apothecary as a front to sell her poisons to desperate women who want to escape the men in their lives. However, a series of events put Nella, her apothecary and her clients โ€“ like Eliza โ€“ at risk.

I’m really like the book so far. However, different from most of the reviews, I’m currently enjoying the modern-day perspective the most. I especially love the feminist bent and how feminism in 18th century London is juxtaposed against feminism in the 21st century.

To Look Forward To This Week

Only one book from my Anticipated Upcoming Releases is coming out this week: Impostor Syndrome by Kathy Wang is releasing today (May 25th!). The fact that the book explores women in the workplace, specifically in the technology industry, made it an instant add to my want-to-read shelf. The book focuses on corporate espionage with a cat-and-mouse character-driven plot.

Impostor Syndrome was also suggested by Book of the Month as a good read for people who liked the documentary The Inventor (2019) and its companion book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou, which chronicled the rise and fall of Theranos, a company built to revolutionize blood testing.
