My Reading Progress
My first Weekly Wrap of 2022 is a catch-up of all the books I’ve read in the past two weeks. I also finally posted my 2021 Wrap Up!
I read Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson as part of the Book Darlings Book Club hosted on Instagram. I found the magic system so interested and I loved the character development as Artemisia becomes more self-assured in her power. The relationship between Artemisia and the sinister revenant was what kept me reading; I loved how the revenant – which is conceived as the ultimate evil – cares so much about Artemisia. Also, like Magaret’s other books, the secondary character development was amazing and it’s the main reason I’m so excited about Vespertine being the first in a series.
It took me a bit longer to get around to Save Me by Ashley N. Rostek because of all the coursework I had due during the end of December and beginning of January. But, nothing demonstrates how much I loved this book than the fact I read it twice in the past week.
The character development of the Heroine was a huge plot point in this book. I appreciated that the author acknowledged the very real struggles – like depression and PTSD – that someone who has survived what she has would go through. Being in a relationship was not a “cure,” she had to work on herself.
Also, the romance! So good. I really want to find some more contemporary reverse harem romances that have such dedicated Heroes.

Reading Challenges Progress
As I mentioned above, I’ve already read the January book for The Book Darlings Book Club: Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson. I’ve also knocked off two prompts from the Diversify Yo’ Bookshelf Challenge:
- Polyamorous MC: Save Me by Ashley N. Rostek
- Inspired by East Asian Folklore / Mythology / Fairy Tale: Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
Save Me also counts as the “re-read a favourite” prompt for the Reading Women Challenge. However, that’s the only prompt I’m doubling up on across all my reading challenges in 2022.
I’ve also read three books from my Up Next Shelf so far in 2022.
A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

The Upcoming Week
To Be Read
I’m currently reading Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq which is a mix of literary fiction and memoir. It’s a coming-of-age story about an Inuit girl set in Nunavut in the 1970s.
I’m enjoying the combination of fiction with poetry and memoir. The book flows so well that it feels like art. The poetry is especially evocative.
I’m taking my time reading Split Tooth, but because it’s my choice for the Read Around the World Challenge January prompt, (set in the Arctic or the Antarctic) I’ll finish it by the end of the month.
To Look Forward To This Week
Anatomy: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz was released yesterday on January 18th. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book. I’ve been gravitating towards historical fiction with strong and independent Heroines where the romance takes a backseat recently (which is far from my norm). I’m also excited for the mystery that’s hinted at in the synopsis.
In the coming week, I’m hoping to post my End of Year Book Tag that gets into the specifics of some of the books I read in 2021. I’m also finally posting my December Wrap Up!
