The Weekly Wrap: April 12th to April 18th

T

A detailed look at last weekโ€™s reading habits: 7 books read, one DNF and, unfortunately, no books read from my Up Next Shelf. I discuss a surprising addition to one of my favourite reverse harem sci-fi romance series and the highly anticipated conclusion of my favourite reverse harem romance epic fantasy series.

My Reading Progress

I cannot believe I didn’t know Stacy Jones decided to continue her Chosen series! The series is one of the best and sweetest reverse harem sci-fi romance series I have read. The world-building is so creative, and I love how Stacy has created an alien language that both the reader and Heroine have to learn. No translator technology instantly makes everyone fluent in each others’ languages which deepens the world-building and, I think, contributes to the strong characterizations.

I loved how Native answered the pressing questions I had after reading the epilogue in what was supposed to be the series conclusion, Tribe Protector. The book was also just as funny, sweet and (super) sexy as its predecessors. But it also addressed important plot points that were left open-ended.

You can read my review of Native here. If you’re curious about the series, I reviewed the first book, Chosen by Stacy Jones, on this blog! Click here to access my review.

I also posted my March Wrap Up on the weekend! I don’t think I’ve ever posted a monthly wrap-up so late into the following month, but as I mention in the post, April has been so busy. The post is titled 27 More Than Good Reads in March because of the 28 books I read, 27 were rated 3-stars and above, which is not typical. Also, I changed my monthly wrap-up cover photos to reflect the colour scheme of my graphs. The cover photos show the corresponding colour code and name of the colour sample, which I thought was fun. You can access my March Wrap Up here.

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

Unfortunately, I read no books from my Up Next Shelf last week. I didn’t buy any new books either.

You can look at my Up Next Challenge through The StoryGraph here or you can look at my Up Next Shelf through the button below!

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout and The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi make up the remaining books on my minimum to-be-read list. I’m currently reading The Henna Artist and still haven’t picked up From Blood and Ash. I think I’m going to leave the Blood and Ash series until after April 20th (I have an important deadline on Tuesday).

I’m also currently reading Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay; I’ve yet to hit my rhythm with this book, but I think I will read it quite fast once I do.

However, my goal this week is to finish Memory Serves by Lee Maracle. I’ve put the book off for the last few weeks, and I only have 40% left in the book.

To Look Forward To This Week

I’m so excited for the release of The Avatar’s Flight by Kristen Banet! It’s the seventh book in the Age of the Andinna reverse harem, epic fantasy series! It has all the makings for a truly epic conclusion to such a great cast of characters. However, I’m incredibly apprehensive about how the final battle will shake out. There are quite a few plot points and relationships that have been left in the air since the last book, and I’m not positive the book will capture my ideal conclusion. (I need a detailed, extended epilogue.)

Also releasing tomorrow is Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart, which seems to explore the frenemy alliance I have always wanted in a high fantasy novel. I cannot wait to get my hands on this book!

The Crown of Gilded Bones by Jennifer L. Armentrout is also releasing tomorrow. But, I’ve decided to put off the Blood and Ash series until after my deadline.
