My Reading Progress

Get the book: 🇺🇸

I’m surprised by how few books I’ve read this week since it seemed to me that I was reading many. However, looking back at my Kindle, I realize now that I’ve been re-read favourite scenes from past books all week. 😂 So, my total books read is quite smaller than it feels like.

Posting my October Book Haul (click here to read) this past week made me excited and apprehensive of all the books I have unread on my bookshelves (real and virtual). The haul actually inspired me to start an October Hopefuls list, which I briefly mentioned in last week’s wrap (click here to read). My October Hopefuls includes all the books I want to read before November 1st. While I might now finish them all, I’m hoping to finish the majority.

This past week I also started my first buddy read with a friend of mine! We read Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I liked the book, although it hasn’t wowed me like the many 5-star reviews suggested it would. I’m over the Hero (ahem, Kaz) who gets to be cruel to people without any consequences, even more so when every other character rationalizes (and romanticizes) it. I really like all the other characters, though (except Matthias).

I’ve also started reading Lady of Outlaws by L.A. Boruff and How To Get Over A Boy by Chidera Eggerue. I’ve mentioned both books in past weekly wraps, and while I started them a while ago, I haven’t picked them up in a week. So, I’m hoping by putting them on my hopefuls list, I’ll be able to commit and finish the books!

Finally, after my October Book Haul, I was initially planning on posting a new book review this past weekend. However, I decided to take a much-needed break from the hustle of writing book reviews and moved the review to this week.

It has also come to my attention that all my new posts send a notification to my email subscribers, resulting in quite a few emails. I’m going to be trying the one-email-a-week for a bit. But, I’ve attached an anonymous poll below (closes Noon October 28th) to see if any of my subscribers have a preference for the number of emails they receive.

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

Since this coming week is the last week of October, I decided to detail all the books I want to read before November 1st. Each of the books with the read section are also from my October Hopefuls List but I haven’t started reading them yet.

I went into detail in last week’s Weekly Wrap about Untamed by Glennon Doyle (which you can read here). The book has been one I’ve been putting off because I want to read it so badly–I’m hoping it lives up to the hype.

Two of the books on the list are by the same author Katie May and similar genres. Gluttony is a reverse harem, high fantasy novel, whereas Roaring is an academy, reverse harem paranormal romance. I’m planning on reading these closer to Halloween, so I can have some element of magic and spookiness on the 31st.

Faked by Karla Sorensen is by an author I discovered this summer who writes amazing romances. Her previous books I’ve read (Focused from the same series and her Washington Wolves series) had such great Heroines!

Finally, Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano, has been on my to-be-read list forever. It’s a book I know I’ll adore, but I keep putting it off since I also know I need to be in the mood to read such an emotional book.

To Look Forward To This Week

If there’s one book I wanted to finish before November 1st, it’s How To Be An Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi. I’ve been reading this book for months, a little bit at a time, which is highly unusual for me. Even more, confounding is that I really like the book! I just need to dedicate the time to read it–it’s nonfiction and therefore requires a bit more concentration and comprehension.

I know my list of books to be read in one week is super long. It’s more like an abstract plan–I just want to read a majority of these books.

Finally, there’s a book coming out this week, on Wednesday, October 28th, that I’ve seen on bookstagram a lot recently: Daddy’s Angel by K.A. Knight. It’s a forbidden, taboo romance (age difference of ~20 years). It looks like erotica-smut, but apparently, the romance between the Heroine and Hero is supposed to be quite sweet.
