My Reading Progress

Get the Book: 🇨🇦

It was a slow reading week last week but quite hectic as my semester wrapped up! I’m excited to take a little break before my spring/summer semester starts.

I was pretty stressed earlier last week, and what I do when I’m stressed is re-reading beloved books, or in last week’s case, a beloved series! I re-read the first three books from the Chosen series, and they were just as funny, sweet, cute and adventurous as I remember. It helps that I read the latest addition to the series, Native, a few weeks ago.

I reviewed the first book in the series, Chosen, back in 2018. Click here to check out my review!

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

I read no books from my Up Next Shelf last week, nor did I buy any new books!

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

Get the Book: 🇨🇦 ~ 🇬🇧 ~ 🇺🇸

I’m still juggling five books at the moment – I don’t know what I was thinking. Obviously, I’m in a bit of a weird reading mood. I’m hoping this rest week will give me the time to sort myself out… I’m thinking I’m going to have to DNF or put a few books on the back-burner and come back to them in a few weeks. Ahem, Ransomed to the World by Stacey Brutger.

I’m loving Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay. Her digestible essay length allows me to read a little bit at a time while feeling like I’m making progress.

The Henna Artist is taking me ages to get into – I’m still only on chapter 3! I think I need to commit a solid half day to allow myself to become immersed in the book. I’m feeling a bit shy towards the novel since I’m convinced the main character is going to have her whole life thrown off track pretty soon which does not help my anxiety 😅.

Also, on my currently reading list are:

  • Memory Serves by Maracle Lee
  • Temper the Soul by Catharine Glen
  • I Hope I Join the Band by Frankie Condon.

To Look Forward To This Week

Order The Ones We’re Meant to Find: 🇨🇦 ~ 🇬🇧 ~ 🇺🇸

Order Arsenic and Adobo: 🇨🇦 ~ 🇬🇧 ~ 🇺🇸

There are three books releasing tomorrow from my anticipated upcoming releases page!

The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He is a twisty dystopian YA novel that explores the bond between two sisters while navigating a climate crisis. I’m feeling strong character-driven vibes from this book, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala is a cozy murder mystery sprinkled with humour! It follows the lead, Lila, as she attempts to save her Aunt’s failing restaurant, only for her ex-boyfriend to be killed – via one of Lia’s culinary creations – in the restaurant’s dining room. To clear her name, Lila has no choice but to solve the mystery herself.

The last book releasing tomorrow is Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter. It’s a sweet YA rom-com, where the main character, Liz, has determined the perfect rom-com inspired plan to secure her happily ever after with her long-time crush. To ensure her schemes are a success, she ropes in her crush’s best friend – her cute but annoying next-door neighbour, Wes … who’s also her childhood nemesis. What can go wrong?
