My Reading Progress

I re-read Ilona Andrews’s Burn for Me last week and forgot how much I loved the series! It’s such a great mix of thrilling adventure, badass characterizations, clever mysteries and steamy romance. I’m always so impressed reading Ilona Andrews’s books; their world-building is so creative and amazingly fleshed out.

Last week, my two other 4-star reads were Bad Guy by Ruby Dixon and Merry Inkmas by Talia Hibbert. Bad Guy was a 300 page, character-driven, sci-fi fantasy romance; while books in this alien world of Dixon’s are normally novella’s, I loved how the longer book allowed her to flesh out the world a bit more.

Merry Inkmas was another great book by Hibbert; she always writes the most dynamic characters. However, I agree with the comments of most reviewers: the Hero was too hot and cold. But, the romance (and its build-up) was still sweet.

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

I didn’t finish any books from my Up Next Shelf last week. I added my 12 books from my Maytime Book Haul a while back. I’ve decided it’s going to be my last book haul until I make a serious dent into my Up Next Shelf. You can see the current status of my Up Next Shelf by clicking the button below!

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

Memory Serves by Lee Maracle has been on my to-be-read list for months. As I mentioned in quite a few Weekly Wraps, I’m 65% of the way through Memory Serves; I still haven’t finished the book. I haven’t been in the mood for a nonfiction novel in quite a few weeks (months? ๐Ÿ˜…). But, I really like reading a physical book before bed instead of on my kindle; I find the glare keeps me up and reading until the sun rises whereas the physical book counteracts my insomnia.

I’ve also updated my minimum books to-be-read in May:

  1. Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay,
  2. The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner, and
  3. You’re the Only One I’ve Told: the Stories Behind Abortion by Dr. Meera Shah.

To Look Forward To This Week

I’m SO excited! A long-anticipated book, Heartwood by Barbara Becker, is releasing today! It’s Becker’s debut memoir that explores grief, death and what it means to be mortal. Lately, I’m really into nonfiction books that tackle big life questions.

โ€œWe can do extraordinary things when we lead with love,โ€ Barbara Becker reminds us in her debut memoir Heartwood.

I’m also posting my April Wrap this month! In other bookish news, I’ve joined the Readerly app and am currently adding the reviews on my Blog to the app. I’m really enjoying Readerly’s straightforward reviewing process: you first select whether you would recommend the book to like-minded readers, and then you write a gist that details why you did and didn’t enjoy the book… in under 200 characters. I love easily digestible reviews.
