My Reading Progress
After getting all my 2021 Wrap Up content published, I took a bit of a break from my blog and Instagram. Giving myself the time and space to recharge and focus on school was a relief. Having the extra time also allowed me to read quite a few books that have been on my Up Next Shelf for years (I’m talking around 8 years). The three books I’m talking about were also the last book I had to read in some iconic fantasy series: City of Heavenly by Cassandra Clare, Winter by Marissa Meyer, and The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas.
I haven’t re-read the first two books in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas in years, so after reading the prequel I decided to re-read the whole series. However, my monthly minimums are still my priority.
I also picked up the compilation of novellas, Stars Above, in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles series. I loved reading key scenes from new perspectives and getting a more solid HEA ending for these characters. It was nostalgic re-visiting this series, since I was in high school the last time I read one of the books in The Lunar Chronicles.
Reading Challenges Progress
Aside from the three books that concluded the iconic fantasy series I mentioned above, the remaining book from my Up Next Shelf was Burnout by Amelia and Emily Nagoski. It took me almost a month to finish but I got through it! The last few sections were quite helpful and actionable. I’ve already implemented logging how long I sleep to ensure I’m getting at minimum 8 hours a night. However, I did find the pacing dragged a bit because of how often the material was repeated.
I’m proud to report that I successfully completed my Book Voyage Around the World read: Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq – and it was a 5-star read! I also crossed off a prompt from my Winter Reading BINGO which was to read a 2022 release. Interestingly, in January I only read one book released in 2022: Mating Monsters by M. Sinclair.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to my Buzzword Reading Challenge choice, so I’m prioritizing that book in February.

I have an ambitious February TBR (of course for the shortest month of the year 😅), in addition to the three books I didn’t get to in January. Rolling over from January are:

- The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow
- The Nature of Witches by Rachel Griffin
The first book I want to tackle from my February TBR is My Heart Is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones. Its title is perfect for Valentine’s Day! 😂 But, seriously, I’m excited and a bit nervous about this book since it’s a slasher-horror, which I’ve never read before. 2022 is the year I’m looking to branch out from my typical genres, so here’s to starting off the year with a bang!
To Look Forward To This Week
One of my anticipated books for 2022, The Red Palace by June Hur, was released on January 25th. In late 2021, I discovered mystery thrillers and really got into the genre. The Red Palace is a fun combination of historical fiction, whodunnit murder mystery, and romance!
I cannot wait to get my hands on this book! However, since I didn’t finish my January TBR, I’m putting in place a short book buying ban in February to make sure my focus remains on my TBR. 😅
