My December Book Haul includes both my hardcopy and ebook purchases made since the start of December. The haul totals 9 books (including ebooks). This haul has a mix-mash of books ranging from medical memoirs to feminist nonfiction and romantic comedies.
Overview
I’ve been trying to put off buying books until I have a better handle on my Up Next shelf (all the books I’ve purchased that are still unread). But, as you can see, this month I caved! A few, I admit, were comfort purchases, where the feel-good synopsis drew me in. Others have been on my to-buy list for months. Starting school again in January means that I want to get back into my academic feminist texts and the other hardcopy books I bought were a good deal.
To break down this haul, here are a few standouts:
Most Anticipated? Feminism is for Everybody by bell hooks is a book I’ve been eagerly waiting to read since I discovered bell hooks. I was looking for a good introductory text to feminism but I’ve read mixed reviews on whether hooks accomplishes her goal: a feminist book that uses accessible language. It’ll be a quick read but I’m excited to get into it!
Longest Book? When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon at 380 pages
Shortest Book? The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman at 63 pages
After discussing the themes of this haul, I split the haul into two stacks divided into my Kindle purchases and my hardcopy books. The haul comes to a total of 9 books!

Summary
I can’t wait to read every single book in this haul. Unfortunately, that might mean my December Hopefuls being replaced with these books! 😅 As you can see from this haul, I love introspective books; the more the author/writer digs into the psyche of the character (or themselves if it’s a memoir), the better the book, in my opinion. Therefore, many of these books are character-driven to the extreme (see The Yellow Wallpaper), and I’m so excited to read them!
There are also a few books that aren’t included in this haul because I’ve already read them. Some of them I’ve reviewed on this blog (🤓) or Goodreads (📌), you can see below:
📌 Beach Read by Emily Henry
To Look Forward To
I was originally planning on wrapping up my standalone fantasy novel theme this week but I realized I was long overdue for a book haul… especially after realizing I actually purchased quite a few books this month. Instead, I’m going to continue with my standalone fantasy novel theme next week and add another book to the theme.
In my November Wrap (see here) I made a list of books I want to read by the end of December. I have a talent for picking precisely the books I don’t seem to gravitate towards. So, I’m revising the list, keeping some and adding others:
- The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
- Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women and the Rest of Us by Kate Bornstein
- Feminism is for Everybody by bell hooks
- I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez
- The Color Purple by Alice Walker
- For the Love of Men by Liz Plank
- Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit
- The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi
- When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
