My Reading Progress

Get the Book: ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Despite last week being another hectic time with assignments โ€“ I have quite a few due today! โ€“ I was able to read several books, including two from my Up Next Shelf. Both these books have been on the shelf for months and were actually quite disappointing.

While both had engaging plots and Heroines that I appreciated, the Heroes’ attitude were so frustrating! I’m a bit incredulous as to why From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout is so popular. The audacity and arrogance of the Hero are incredibly off-putting, disrespectful and anger-inducing.

Comparatively, while the Hero in The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen is a bit more understandable, his stubbornness and judgement ruined the whole romance for me (yes, I read the sequel).

You can access my review (rant) of From Blood and Ash here. Also, I wrote a quick review of The Bridge Kingdom here.

Up Next Shelf Progress

A reminder: my Up Next Shelf is comprised of all the unread books I want to read and have purchased.

I read two books from my Up Next Shelf and added 12 new books. I’m going to post my Maytime Book Haul very soon where I unpack my latest haul!

From this shelf, I read From Blood and Ash, which I bought in October 2020. The other book I read from this shelf was The Bridge Kingdom which I mentioned in my September 2020 haul but bought back in October 2019!

You can see that my Up Next Shelf has increased to 145 books through my challenge on The StoryGraph. I’ve read 24 of them โ€“ you can access my challenge here.

The Upcoming Week

To Be Read

I’m hoping to read all of my shorter books (under 200 pages) on my Up Next Shelf and currently reading list this week. Temper the Soul by Catharine Glen is part one of two prequels that set up Glen’s Shadowed World Saga (the first full book releases on May 27th, 2021).

On my Goodreads currently reading list, you can see that I’m working my way through six books, including Temper of the Soul. None of the books have captured my attention โ€“ hence why I keep starting new ones ๐Ÿ˜… โ€“ but I’m hoping this week will allow me to make a serious dent.

To Look Forward To This Week

Releasing tomorrow is What White People Can Do Next: From Allyship to Coalition by Emma Dabiri! While you can purchase the ebook on Amazon and the paperback in the UK, hardcopies will not be out until June 22nd, 2021. So, the release seems to be a bit convoluted.

I’m really excited to read What White People Can Do Next; as one of the cover endorsements states, it’s “accessible and yet so full of scholarship,” which is precisely what I’m looking for in anti-racist books.

I cannot believe this is the last week of April! I’m hoping to post my book haul this week, but it could be pushed back into May. I’m also instating a personal book buying ban in hopes of working my way through more of my Up Next Shelf. However, this ban doesn’t stop me from borrowing books through Kindle Unlimited ๐Ÿ˜….
