24 New Books: My Primaveral Book Haul

2

24 new books comprise my primaveral book haul! I’ve divided the haul into ebooks and physical books, with gems from my favourite genres.

Overview

You might be asking yourself, what does primaveral mean? I’ve been putting this haul together for a while, and because I kept putting off posting it, the haul now includes new books from February and March. I didn’t want a boring title, “February and March Book Haul,” yet this time of March doesn’t really feel like Winter, nor is it quite Spring. Therefore, I started looking for ‘wintery’ words that could capture this feeling. Hence, primaveral: “of or relating to early spring,” which, I think, perfectly captures the odd limbo of this time in March as Spring official starts on March 20th!

To break down this haul, here are a few standouts:

Most Anticipated? Long Bright River by Liz Moore. I’m not normally a fan of thrillers but I love how this book centres character development and its pacing is dependent on the relationship between the FMC (the female main character) and her sister.

Longest Book? Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron at 496 pages
Shortest Book? Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates at 152 pages

After discussing the themes of this haul, I split the haul into two stacks: one for physical books and the other for my new ebooks. The haul comes to a total of 24 books!

Prevalent Themes

🖤 Quite a few books explore social justice, particularly anti-racism. I find most of the non-fiction books I gravitate towards nowadays are anti-racism and feminism books.
🖤 High fantasy – I’ve seriously missed reading fantasy novels! I am hoping to start a fantasy binge.
🖤 Thriller – This is a rare genre for me to dabble into but the few I’ve picked out have been calling my name. It helps that I’ve been binge-watching Criminal Minds and all the thrillers in this haul are character-driven.
🖤 Literary fiction
🖤 Character-driven
🖤 Mythology and retellings
🖤 Contemporary Romance

Summary

Quite a few of these were purchased on sale which was the best luck. All these books have been on my want to read list for ages and I’m so excited to get into them. I am really happy that the books in this haul are from the genres I read the most: fantasy, YA fiction, romance and anti-racist nonfiction.

I started writing my primaveral Book Haul earlier on in the week but have only been able to post it now. As a result, I’ve already read a few of the books in this haul! Some of them I’ve reviewed on this blog (🤓) or Goodreads (📌), as you can see below:

📌 One To Watch by Kate Stayman-London
📌 Ten Rules for Faking It by Sophie Sullivan

To Look Forward To

I’m so excited about all these books in my primaveral book haul! I’ve already finished two of them and am currently working on a third from this haul!
